First Astronomy Class of 2026

Posted/Updated: 14th January 2026

All music to our ears with science and music together

U3A reopened for 2026, and we held our first Astronomy class for 2026. We watched a pleasurable collaboration between Professor Brian Cox and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ben Northey, bringing the science of space and music together. Many composers of classical music have referenced aspects of our  Universe such as Clare de Lune and The Planets. This symphonic odyssey  included a modern commissioned work called ‘The Starry Messenger’.

Today’s lesson concluded with in-  formation about the fate of Betelgeuse in the Orion constellation.

Our class coordinators Wendy and Bill offer interesting subjects each week.

Astronomy is held at the Vincent office on Monday’s at 1 pm. Come and join us,
