Thank you to all members for your continued support and engagement as we navigate ongoing changes related to our use of the TSCWA (Townsville Senior Citizens Assoc) facility.
Background
Initially, U3A was welcomed into TSCWA with the understanding that no rent would be required. Instead, we supported their request for our members to also join TSCWA. We also contributed to classroom electricity costs and were provided access to office space. We have always operated in good faith under this arrangement.
Membership and Access Changes
Over time, changes in leadership at TSCWA led to updates in how memberships were handled. These changes introduced uncertainty around our members’ status and future use of the space.
Recent Developments
At our AGM, members supported the committee’s efforts to explore all options following a rent-or-vacate decision from TSCWA Two key actions have been under review:
- No Confidence Motion – Considered but not pursued due to limited voting influence under TSCWA’s updated structure.
- Legal Review of MOU – Initial costings were discussed and this item will be revisited at our June committee meeting.
Next Steps
We remain focused on resolving these challenges thoughtfully and transparently. The committee is committed to keeping members informed and ensuring the best outcome for our U3A community.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
